2023年秋季学期，为锻炼学生口语能力，增强学生跨文化交际意识，西英格兰学院共开展3次英语角活动。
In the Autumn Semester of 2023,the University of the West of England College held three English-Corner sessions to improve students’ oral-English proficiency and raise their awareness of cross-cultural communication.
西英格兰学院本科专业课程为全英授课，为保障授课质量和学习效率，学院本科学生需于第一学年结束后达到西英格兰大学语言内测6.0分(小分均不低于5.5分)的成绩标准，否则将无法晋级下一学年的学习。考虑到我院学生基于英语语言水平的晋级机制，为给学生未来的升学规划打好语言基础，学院针对学生的学习特点因材施教，指导学生踊跃参与各项英语竞赛，并开展英语角活动，激发学生学习兴趣。
Undergraduate programmes at UWEC are delivered entirely in English. To guarantee teaching quality and learning outcomes, undergraduate students are required to achieve an overall score of 6.0 (no sub-score below 5.5) in the UWE Bristol English Placement Test by the end of their first academic year. Those who fail to meet this requirement cannot progress to the next year of study.Given this progression mechanism tied to English proficiency, the college aims to lay a solid linguistic foundation for students’ further-study plans. Teaching is tailored to individual learning characteristics. The college encourages students to take part in various English competitions and organises English-Corner events to spark their enthusiasm for language learning.

Teacher Deljet shares features of his hometown
英语角活动邀请了Deljet Shemar, Mason Mei, Chole Place三位老师作为嘉宾，先后围绕Hometown（家乡）、Hobbies and Exercises（爱好与运动）、UK Educational System（英国教育体制）分享趣事及学习经验。
Three teachers, Deljet Shemar, Mason Mei and Chole Place, were invited as guest speakers. They shared interesting stories and learning insights around three themes: Hometown, Hobbies and Exercises, and the UK Educational System.
英语角活动由学生自愿报名参与，以交流、分享为主要形式。3次英语角都采用了师生互动、分组讨论的模式，学生们在教师的指导下围绕主题进行深入的交流。同学们在活动中畅所欲言，现场活动氛围轻快自由，大家聚精会神地聆听嘉宾们分享的趣事和学习经验，在视、听与思考中细细品味英语的魅力，提高口语表达能力和跨文化的沟通能力，提升学习热情，锻炼口语交际能力。
Participation in the English Corner was voluntary, centred on communication and sharing. All three sessions adopted teacher student interaction and group discussions. Under tutors’ guidance, students engaged in in depth exchanges on given topics. Participants spoke freely in a relaxed, open minded atmosphere. They listened attentively to guests’ anecdotes and practical tips. Through viewing, listening and reflection, they experienced the charm of the English language, enhanced oral expression and cross cultural communication competence, boosted learning motivation and practised real life spoken English skills.

英语角活动向同学们提供了一个展示自我的舞台，帮助学生克服“不敢说”和“怕说错”的心理障碍，让他们在轻松有趣的氛围中提升自我。
The English Corner serves as a stage for self-presentation. It helps students overcome communication apprehension — the fear of speaking up and making mistakes — so they can make progress in a light-hearted, enjoyable setting.
2023年的西英英语角在温馨互动中圆满结束，相信大家一定收获满满，受益匪浅。
