为进一步夯实我校中外合作办学的人才培养目标，激发学生对全球可持续发展议题的关注与实践热情，培养批判性与辩证思维，增强国际视野与跨文化沟通能力，海南医科大学西英格兰学院（国际教育学院）于10月15日晚举办第二届“可持续发展（Sustainability）英语能力竞赛”宣讲会。
To further consolidate the talent training objectives of Sino foreign cooperative education at Hainan Medical University, stimulate students’ concern for and enthusiasm to engage in practices regarding global sustainability issues, foster their critical and dialectical thinking, and enhance their global vision and cross cultural communication competence, UWEC (SIE) of HNMU held the briefing for the 2nd “Sustainability” English Proficiency Competition on the evening of October 15.
本届竞赛由海南医科大学教务处与校团委共同指导，以联合国可持续发展目标（SDGs）中的“良好健康与福祉”为核心指引，深度融合 “海南热带医学” 的特色科研与公共卫生“one health”议题，采用“认知—实践—创新”三维体系，通过主题探究、跨文化协作、实景任务等形式，引导学生将创意真正“做”出来，实现从语言学习到语言应用的有效转化，全面提升自主学习、跨文化沟通与国际理解三大核心能力。
This year’s competition is jointly guided by the Academic Affairs Office and the University Youth League Committee of Hainan Medical University. Centered on “Good Health and Well being” from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it deeply integrates distinctive research on “Hainan Tropical Medicine” and the public health “One Health” agenda. Adopting the three dimensional framework of “Cognition Practice Innovation”, the competition adopts forms including theme based inquiry, cross cultural collaboration and real world tasks to guide students to turn creative ideas into tangible deliverables. It realizes the effective transformation from language learning to practical language application and comprehensively enhances students’ three core competencies: self directed learning, cross cultural communication and global awareness.

为帮助学生深入了解赛事内容与参赛流程，学院特别邀请了Tom Linley（Head of Lifelong Learning and Engagement – Asia Pacific）与 Steven Baker（Senior English Tutor and PSE Manager）亲临现场，为学生带来了一场生动而富有启发性的讲座。两位嘉宾围绕可持续发展的内涵与教育意义展开解读，详细介绍了竞赛结构与评审要点，并指出赛事将形成“知识输入—实践验证—成果转化”的完整闭环，助力学生将创意落地、以行动赋能学习。
To help students gain an in depth understanding of the competition content and entry procedures, the College specially invited Tom Linley (Head of Lifelong Learning and Engagement – Asia Pacific) and Steven Baker (Senior English Tutor and PSE Manager) to deliver a vivid and enlightening lecture on site. The two guests elaborated on the connotations and educational significance of sustainability, elaborated on the competition structure and key evaluation criteria, and noted that the contest will form a complete closed loop mechanism of “Knowledge Input Practice Verification Outcome Transformation”. It empowers students to materialize their creative ideas and turns learning into action.

宣讲会依次设置了可持续发展导入、主题互动、活动介绍往届学生代表分享等环节。在轻松而富有启发的氛围中，现场讨论逐渐升温。同学们在嘉宾的引导下，围绕“植树造林”“材料循环”“减少海洋污染”等可持续议题展开热烈交流，思想碰撞不断、灵感频现，现场气氛积极而充满活力。
The information session featured several segments: an introduction to sustainability, themed interactions, event briefing, and sharing by former student representatives. Amid a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere, on site discussions grew increasingly animated. Guided by the guests, students held vigorous exchanges around sustainability focused topics such as “afforestation”, “material recycling” and “marine pollution reduction”. Constant intellectual collisions sparked bursts of inspiration, filling the venue with positive and vibrant energy.
最后，23级护理学（中外合作办学）专业的戚饶婷同学作为首届竞赛参与学生代表受邀分享。嘉宾以对谈的形式与其交流，引导她回顾参赛经历与成长收获。戚饶婷同学结合个人体验，讲述了参与首届竞赛及赴英国西英格兰大学夏校学习的体会，鼓励同学们以英语表达可持续理念，用实际行动诠释青年担当。
Lastly, Qi Raoting, a 2023 intake student majoring in Sino foreign cooperative Nursing, was invited to share as a participant representative from the inaugural competition. The guests had a dialogue with her, prompting her to look back on her competition journey and personal growth. Drawing from her firsthand experience, Qi Raoting shared insights gained from participating in the first ever competition and attending the summer school at the University of the West of England in the UK. She encouraged her peers to articulate sustainability ideas in English and embody youth responsibility through practical actions.
